Terms and conditions

Last updated: 8 October 2026

These terms apply to everyone who uses Toppi — customers who ask for help and Toppis who offer it. By sending a request or application, you agree to them. Please read them; we've kept them as short and clear as possible.

  1. 1.Who we are

Toppi is operated by VSJN Systems (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2026/048485/07), a company registered in South Africa.

    • •Email: hello@toppi.co.za
    • •Phone / WhatsApp: 060 692 8979
    • •Website: toppi.co.za
  2. 2.What Toppi does

Toppi connects people who need help ("customers") with experienced people in their area who offer help ("Toppis"). We choose a suitable Toppi, send you a price, and arrange the payment.

Toppis are independent. They are not Toppi employees, and they choose which work they accept. The work itself is done by the Toppi, under the agreement between the customer and the Toppi.

  3. 3.Requests, prices and bookings

Sending a request is not yet a booking. We send you the Toppi's name and the full price on WhatsApp.

The price we send shows the Toppi's rate plus a platform fee. The Toppi receives 100% of their rate. The platform fee is R15 (for jobs under R200) or R30 (for jobs of R200 and more), plus 6% of the Toppi's rate, and covers transaction costs and running Toppi.

You see the full amount before you pay. There are no hidden costs. Any materials or ingredients needed are agreed with you upfront. If the job turns out to be bigger than described, the Toppi must talk to you first — nothing extra is done or charged without your agreement.

The booking is confirmed once you accept the price and pay.

  4. 4.Payment

You pay upfront through a secure payment link. The money is held by a registered third-party escrow service — not by Toppi or the Toppi.

The money is only paid to the Toppi after the job is done and you have confirmed it, or if you don't report a problem within the period stated in your payment confirmation.

We don't store your card or bank details; the payment service handles them.

  5. 5.Cancellations and refunds

    • •If you cancel before the Toppi starts the work, you get the full amount back, less any payment costs we can't recover from the payment service.
    • •If the Toppi can't do the job and we can't find another Toppi who suits you, you get the full amount back.
    • •Once the work has started with your agreement, the ECT Act cooling-off period no longer applies. If you're unhappy with the work, follow the steps under "Problems and complaints".
  6. 6.Problems and complaints

If something isn't right, let us know as soon as possible — before the payment is released — on WhatsApp or by email, with a short description and photos if possible.

The money stays held while we try to resolve the problem with you and the Toppi. We can arrange for the Toppi to fix the problem, or for you to receive a partial or full refund.

Your rights under the Consumer Protection Act always apply.

  7. 7.What we ask of customers

    • •Describe the job honestly and as fully as possible.
    • •Make sure someone aged 18 or older is home when the Toppi arrives (except for house and pet sitting, when you're away).
    • •Follow the rules for lessons for children below.
    • •Provide a safe place to work and treat the Toppi with respect.
    • •Please book work you found through Toppi through Toppi, so that you and the Toppi are protected.
  8. 8.What we ask of Toppis

    • •Give honest information about your experience and skills.
    • •Agree to our checks: a phone interview, a copy of your ID and proof of address. For any work with children (such as classes or lessons), a valid police clearance certificate is also required.
    • •Only do work you are competent to do, and decline work that is unsafe or that you're not comfortable with.
    • •Arrive on time, work neatly and safely, and treat the customer and their home with respect.
    • •As an independent person, you are responsible for your own tax and your own tools.
    • •For house sitting: keep keys, alarm and gate codes private, don't bring anyone else to the home, return the keys straight after the job, and report any problem immediately.

We may suspend or remove a Toppi's profile if these terms are not followed.

  9. 9.Lessons for children

Working with children needs extra care. These rules apply to every lesson with a child, and both the customer and the Toppi agree to them:

    • •A parent or guardian must be home for the whole lesson. If no adult is home, the Toppi won't start the lesson.
    • •Lessons take place in a shared, open space such as the lounge or dining room — never in a bedroom or behind a closed door.
    • •The Toppi is never alone with the child.
    • •The Toppi doesn't transport children or meet them outside booked lessons.
    • •All contact goes through the parent — no direct phone or social-media contact with the child.
    • •Any concern is reported immediately. A breach means permanent removal, and where needed we involve the police.

Every Toppi who teaches children has a valid police clearance certificate, retired teachers included. Until it arrives, the Toppi only gives lessons to adults.

  10. 10.House and pet sitting

If you ask a Toppi to look after your home or pets while you're away:

    • •Hand over keys and access details (such as alarm and gate codes) in person or securely — never in a public message.
    • •Lock away valuables.
    • •Leave clear instructions for your pets, plus your vet's details and an emergency contact.
    • •Check whether your home insurance requires you to tell them about a house sitter.
    • •In an emergency, the Toppi contacts you first, then the vet you named. Vet costs are for your account.
  11. 11.Work we don't do

Toppis don't do work that the law says needs a certified or registered tradesperson — such as electrical installations, gas, or plumbing that needs a certificate. We'll tell you if your request includes such work.

  12. 12.Liability

We check every Toppi and do our best to choose good, reliable people. Because Toppis work independently, Toppi is not responsible for loss or damage caused by a Toppi or customer, except where we ourselves were negligent.

Where Toppi is liable, our liability is limited to the amount paid for the booking concerned — except where the law (including the Consumer Protection Act) does not allow this.

  13. 13.Privacy

We handle your personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). See our Privacy policy for the details.

  14. 14.Changes and governing law

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. Bookings already confirmed fall under the terms that applied at that time.

These terms are governed by South African law. If the Afrikaans and English versions differ, the Afrikaans version applies.
